I am entering the PhotoFriday contests after a long time. This week, the category is "Light" and I have chosen a photo with very little light in it :-) This photo was taken on a very cloudy day on the top of Stavravouni Monastery, here in Cyprus.

I have submitted this photo for the weekly Photofriday contest. The theme for this week is "Bright". This was taken at sunrise at the Salt lake at Larnaka. I asked my friend to hold a feather (that is a flamingo's feather!) against the sun. I went a long way back, kept my lens at 300 mm (effective 450 mm on 35 mm film) , focussed on the feather to get the "blurred" sun.

I have submitted the above photo for the weekly Pxite contest. The theme for this week is "distance". This photo was taken during the trek on the Curium Cliffs, here in Cyprus.

The above 3 photographs are the ones I have submitted for the weekly PhotoFriday contest. The theme for this week is "boy". I know that the first one looks better because of the good bokeh and ample lighting. But, the other too looked good to me because of the eye contact made by the kids.

It was late afternoon and I just happened to look out of one of the windows in my office building and the image i saw was, at the first look, very confusing to me. There was a blue canvas with a ship in the middle and i couldn't discern the sky and the sea. Then, i rushed out and took this snap. It was early days in Cyprus for me and I came to realise later that such scenes are very common here during the transition from summer to winter. Well, if you thought that the water body in the picture is a lake, you are wrong. It is the famous mediterranean sea and yes, for most part of the year it is absolutely calm in Cyprus. The biggest waves you might get are the ones which might wet your ankles!

This shot of the moon was taken at around 6 am in the morning, when there was enough light present so as to avoid using a tripod. More details on how to take good photographs of the moon can be found in my photography tips and tricks section.

This was taken from the top of eiffel tower in Paris, France. The river (seen partially on the bottom of the photo) is Seine. A cruise on the River Seine, costing about 9 euros (peanuts compared to anything else in Paris), is the easiest way to see the major sights of Paris, including the Notre Dame Cathedral.

This was taken with my old Nikon Coolpix 2500 (now relegated to the role of a memory card reader to transfer photos from my D70). I used the close-up scene mode and went as close as possible to the flowers. It had just rained and the flowers looked irresistible.

I took this picture from the top of a moving bus. It was late evening, when there was just enough light to make this picture possible. It was a open-top double-decker bus belonging to the "London-by-night" tour. If you are visiting London, I would strongly recommend you to do this tour on your first evening, because it would familiarise you with all the sights of central london.

When we turned onto the road from a side street, I noticed that we would be passing under this tree. I quickly increased the ISO to 1600 and put the camera to Shutter Priority at 1/20s. By trial and error, i have found out that 1/20s usually works at dusk. The light on the tree was from a street light.
